Toyota Tundra Prerunner with LSK Suspension and Supercharger
This is our archive feature dedicated to a 2nd Gen Toyota Tundra prerunner build we covered a few years ago. The truck boasts so many complex performance and suspension upgrades that we couldn’t resist bringing it back to our new readers in 2024.
This Tundra truck may look familiar to some of you, as it has appeared at numerous desert events and popped up occasionally on Instagram feeds. It is owned by Andy Smoot, who was kind enough to share some insights about this incredible truck and provide a few pictures.

ToggleThe Build
The prerunner build is far more complex than the average street car project may imply. It requires greater expertise from the builder to select and combine all the components appropriately to make something truly remarkable. But thanks to extensive experience in building and racing such trucks, the owner was off to a good start with his mint 2014 Tundra TRD.
Engine
Being equipped with a 5.7L Force V8 motor, that gives out about 381 HP and 401 ft/lb of torque, this truck shows pretty decent performance on and off the road, but it wasn’t enough for Andy’s ambitious plans. He decided to outfit it with a TRD supercharger and boost up the power to impressive 504 HP and 550 ft/lb of torque.
Long Travel Suspension
One of the most crucial components of any pre-runner build is the suspension, and this is where this truck truly shines. It boasts impressive 16″ of wheel travel and a 1-inch longer wheelbase thanks to the LSK 4WD Bolt-on kit, which includes custom upper arms, lower arms, spindles, and steering. King 8″ 2.5 coilovers and 8″ 3.0 bypasses ensure proper damping and articulation.
Stage 2
However, after some testing, Andy decided to take it a step further and upgrade to the top-of-the-line LSK Race Kit, which provides even better stability, travel, and overall handling. It comes with custom upper arms, lower arms, spindles, shock tower/upper arm mounts, and steering.
Instead of 8″ coilovers, he opted for larger 10″ Coilovers and 10″ Bypasses. The estimated suspension travel is 16″-17″. The truck is currently at the shop, and in addition to the new front suspension, it is also getting a new engine cage. If you’re wondering about the cost of this setup, the current MSRP for the LSK Race kit was $4,500 at the moment of publication.
Rear Suspension
The rear suspension features an LSK 3-link setup with a panhard bar, King 14″ 2.5 coilovers, and 16″ 3.5 bypass shocks. The stock gearing and factory electronic limited-slip differential (LSD) were replaced with Nitro 4.88 gears and a T10.5″ Toyota Auburn Pro Posi LSD, which provides excellent traction whenever needed.
Wheels & Tires
This long-travel Tundra prerunner sits wide on robust 37-inch BFGoodrich tires and sturdy Method Racing wheels.
Widebody Panels
To accommodate the large suspension travel and 37″ wheels, which require significantly more space in the wheel wells, Andy installed widebody fenders by Advanced Fiberglass (formerly known as Glassworks). The kit includes wide front fenders and extended rear bed sides, providing the necessary clearance for the upgraded suspension and larger wheels. The kit was priced at approximately $1200 without painting and installation.
Lights
To ensure excellent visibility at night, the truck was equipped with a powerful roof-mounted Gravity LED Pro6 LED light bar by KC, along with hood-mounted auxiliary lights. The factory Tundra headlights were replaced with stylish aftermarket units featuring bright C-shape LED DRL light bars and black housing, which complement the white long-travel Tundra exceptionally well.
Interior & Safety
Since this Toyota Tundra prerunner is taken off-road quite often and driven at high speeds, safety measures couldn’t be overlooked. A full cab cage was installed along with a set of custom PRP race seats and harnesses. A PCI radio and intercom top the list of interior upgrades to ensure reliable communication with the crew when Andy is out there wheeling.
