The Audi Allroad, while primarily a luxury station wagon, is capable of handling light off-roading thanks to its standard Quattro all-wheel drive system. The Allroad also has a better ground clearance compared to standard Avant models. The available adaptive air suspension can further increase ground clearance by nearly 2 inches when in the highest setting (under 22 mph). But, it is important to note that the Allroad has its limits and is best suited for well-maintained dirt/gravel roads in dry conditions, rather than challenging trails that dedicated off-road vehicles like Jeeps or Ford Broncos can tackle.
While the Audi Allroad comes factory-equipped with some basic off-road features, many owners choose to further enhance its capabilities with aftermarket modifications. From what we observed, the majority of owners use 1” to 2” lift kits, all-terrain tires such as BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 and Falken Wildpeak A/T3W for improved traction, and custom skid plates to protect the underbody. Other common mods are LED light bars, sturdy roof racks and platforms for tents or extra gear during overlanding adventures.
Q2 and Q3
2017 & Up Audi Q2 Subcompact Crossover
- BF Goodrich T/A KO2 all-terrain tires
- All Ground +30mm Lift Springs
- Rhino-Rack Roof Platform
- OE Roof Rack
2022 Audi Q3 Quattro S-Line
- Black Rhino Chase Wheels
- BF Goodrich All terrain KO2’s Tires
- Turtle Air2 cross bars
- Front Runner Outfitters Roof Boxes
The Q2 and Q3 are sub-compact crossovers from Audi primarily designed for on-road use, but come standard with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system for extra traction in slippery conditions. The Q3, being slightly larger, has an available “off-road mode” for unpaved surfaces, but neither vehicle has the ground clearance, suspension travel, or underbody protection for serious off-roading without modifications. Common mods include 30-50mm suspension lifts, larger all-terrain tires, and custom skid plates. The Q3’s larger size offers more presence, while the Q2 provides better maneuverability in urban settings.
Q5 & e-Trone Mid-Size Crossovers
2022 AUDI E-Tron
- Flat white camo wrap
- Black Rotiform KB1 Rims
- Toyo Open Country A/T 3 & Toyo Celsius
- Bike Rack
- Narrow cargo basket
- Dirtcomusa hitch-mount spare tire carrier
The Audi Q5 is better suited for off-roading compared to the Q2, Q3, and Allroad due to its larger size, higher ground clearance, and available adaptive air suspension with “lift/offroad” and “allroad” drive modes. The quattro all-wheel drive system and 7-speed S tronic automatic transmission offer superior traction on loose surfaces. However, the Q5 still has limitations compared to dedicated 4x4s and is best suited for lighter dirt roads and trails. Common mods include suspension lifts, all-terrain tires, and roof cargo carriers.
Q7 Full Size Crossover
2006-2015 Audi Q7 4L on 34s
- Addictive Dessert Designs Front & Rear Stealth Fighter Bumpers
- Swift Springs (front)
- Eurowise 1.5″ lift spacer milled down (front only)
- Eurowise front/rear control arm
- Eurowise 2″ subframe drop
- 18×8 Victor Equip Berg rims
- 34″ Nitto Grappler All-Terrain Tires
The Q7 stands is definitely the most off-road friendly model from Audi’s lineup thanks to its robust size (over 5 meters long), and impressive ground clearance of up to 9.6 inches with the air suspension locked in the top position. These features provide the Q7 with a commanding presence and enhanced capability on rough terrain and uneven surfaces.
The advanced Quattro all-wheel drive system dynamically distributes torque between the front and rear axles, ensuring optimal traction on loose and slippery surfaces commonly encountered off-road. The Drive Select system also includes a dedicated “Off-Road” mode that tailors the throttle response, transmission, steering, and AWD system for improved control on dirt and gravel. Being equipped with powerful engines, such as the 335 hp turbocharged V6 in the Q7 55 models, this SUV can confidently handle oversized tires and challenging off-road ascents. The spacious interior offers up to 69.6 cubic feet of cargo space for overland gear and various storage setups. Although the Q7 still has limitations compared to dedicated body-on-frame off-roaders, it’s suited for light to moderate trails. Its combination of space, power, technology, and all-terrain features make it Audi’s most off-road friendly model.
