Peak Ford Maverick FX4 Overland Build with Packout Camper Shell & RTT
One of the reasons why unibody crossovers became more popular than full size body on frame SUVs is that they’re simply more practical in day-to-day use. They’re comfortable, fuel efficient, easy to park and provide car like driving manners. Though as any product of compromise, they have some limitations, and one of such limitations is the cargo space (if you ever packed for multi-day adventure in a Subaru Forester or a similar crossover – you know what I’m talking about).
Being a unibody pickup truck Ford Maverick combines the best features of a practical crossover with an all-wheel-drive while the 4.5 foot long bed allows you to forget the cargo space problem, and that’s one of the reasons why Kazmot Tegz chose this pickup for his overland project. Gradually upgrading all the vital components of the truck to make it more off-road- and adventure-friendly his FX4 became a truly capable and reliable companion to spending good times off the grid. Read on as we dive deeper into the mods and upgrades done to this awesome truck!
Key Mods:
- Overland RTT setup
- 2.25″ Suspension lift

Suspension & Lift
As with any build that gets off-road use the suspension of this Maverick has been completely overhauled with a slew of legit aftermarket components. To bump up the clearance a little bit and gain more space in the wheel wells to mount larger tires the owner has installed Ford Ranger Lifts 2.25 inch spacers front and rear.
The factory struts were replaced by Bilstein TerraSport setup along with All Dogs Offroad HD Springs. The owner has also added Timbren Industries bump stops to avoid suspension bottoming out on rocks and deep potholes.

Wheels & Tires
The new suspension set up allowed ditching factory tires and installing something bigger. That’s why the owner has settled on a set of Kenda Klever R/T 245/75R17 off-road tires that equal to slightly over 31.5 inches in the overall diameter.
Compared to the factory 225/65R17 road tires that are sized 28.5″, it’s 3 inches larger which is quite a big jump that instantly gives a 1.5″ clearance boost on top of 2.25″ provided by the lift kit totalling to almost 4″. To cover up slightly wider wheels and protect the sides of the truck from dirt and debris thrown by the tires the owner installed a set of Mabett Official fender flares.

Exterior Mods
Looking at the front of the Maverick you’ll notice the cool tubular bumper with the pair of Tripler Lights Sentinel Elite 7″ driving lights mounted to the center bar. A few inches below sits a wide Tripler Lights Linear 18 Elite LED light bar that provides additional illumination on the trails. On both sides of the bumper are handy tow shackles for recovery purposes.

Overland Gear
But things get even more interesting when we move on to the bed of the truck, because this is where the majority of the Overland gear is concentrated. One of the stars here is certainly the Packout USA camper with an integrated clamshell tent, swing out rear door, awning, over the cab storage, bike side mount, single rotary latches and Max Air fan.
Up on the side is the 270° Batwing awning by Overland Vehicle Systems quite a popular setup that we’ve seen on many full size SUVs and trucks featured on offroadium.com.

To rinse off after a hard day on the trails the owner installed Yakima 7 gallon Roadshower water tank with an Inspired Overland shower awning and Kakadu USA portable Outback shower pump.
Power devices work off the grid thanks to the RTE USA 200aH Power Wall PRO power unit along with Renogy 2000 watt sine wave inverter and DC-DC charger.
Owner’s Insight
How did you get into off-roading and why it attracted you?
– I’ve always loved the outdoors, and off-roading became a natural way to explore spots you just can’t reach on pavement. The mix of adventure, challenge, and self-reliance really pulled me in—every trail is different, and every trip feels like a new experience.
Why did you choose a Ford Maverick for your project?
– I wanted something versatile and efficient that still had pickup utility. The Maverick is unique—it’s compact, fuel-efficient, and budget-friendly compared to larger trucks, but still capable with the right upgrades. Plus, being different than the typical Tacoma or Ranger build makes it stand out.
What was the most difficult part of the build?
– The hardest part was dialing in the balance between daily drivability and off-road capability. Since the Maverick wasn’t originally designed as a hardcore off-roader, fitting things like the Pack Out Camper setup, FordRangerLifts kit, custom pre-runner bumper top-of-the-line suspension like BILSTEIN TerraSport, ADO HD Springs, Timbren SES, KENDA Tires, RTE Power Wall Pro unit and insane TRIPLE – R Lighting took planning and problem-solving.
What do you love the most about your pickup truck?
– I love that it’s truly mine. Every mod reflects the way I camp, explore, and use the truck. It’s practical, comfortable for everyday use, and still ready to head into the mountains at a moment’s notice.

Legit Compact Overland Truck
With all the upgrades installed on this compact unibody truck it’s fair to say that it’s a very solid Overland build capable to handle multi-day expeditions out in the wild. And the great thing about it is that it still remains a comfortable and a relatively efficient vehicle to serve the owner on a day-to-day basis.
Based on our build capability rating it gains solid 40 points out of 70 possible thanks to the lift, heavily oversized tires, and tubular pre-runner bumper.
