When it comes to any off-road build, wheels are the foundation of optimal traction and performance on rough terrain. That’s why Matt decided to install an oversized set of 37-inch tires, which, thanks to wider wheel wells, became a little bit easier compared to previous Land Cruiser models. This gave an extensive boost in both traction and ground clearance compared to the stock 235/85/18 (letter size 31 and a half inches in overall diameter). For the rubber, he chose Hankook Dynapro XT and mounted them on a set of Black Rhino Congo 17×8.5 rims in black finish.

Among the overland-style upgrades are the low-profile DV8 Offroad roof rack with an Open Road 4WD rooftop tent (RTT) attached to it for multi-day adventures out in the wild. There are also Prinsu/CBI Offroad ladder roof rack, Rago Fabrication rear MOLLE panels and storage rack. Lensun Solar panel mounted on the hood provides power supply to on-board electronics and numerous lights.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 250 is certainly one of the greatest hits in the market for real 4×4 vehicles. I can imagine how unbearable for Toyota was it to witness the success of the Ford Bronco in 2022, but it definitely pushed them to take notes and develop a stronger competitor on the base of their new new Land Cruiser platform. Luckily for us, they did everything right.
Despite some criticism upon its release about the size and performance, the new Land Cruiser turned out to be particularly good at what it was designed for: off-road performance (our side-by-side comparison proves it with one of the highest scores of 89 out of 100 in stock form).
Key upgrades
- Dobinsons MRR extended travel 3″ lift kit
- 37″ Tires mounted on 17″s
- DV8 Offroad Bumpers & Armor

Standard full-time 4WD with a locking center diff, available front/rear lockers, CRAWL Control, Multi-Terrain Select, Downhill Assist Control, and the first-ever Electric Power Steering (EPS) with stabilizer disconnect do wonders on rough terrain. But what makes this all work even better are classic off-road upgrades such as a suspension lift and proper oversized tires.
The build we’re featuring today isn’t just outfitted with new wheels and a lift. It’s kitted with some of the coolest bumpers, roof racks, skid plates, and other gear to be an exceptionally capable and convenient overland adventure rig. Read on as we dive deep into the mods and upgrades installed by its owner Matthew Brock and see why it was featured at SEMA 2025.

Wheels & Tires
When it comes to any off-road build, wheels are the foundation of optimal traction and performance on rough terrain. That’s why Matt decided to install an oversized set of 37-inch tires, which, thanks to wider wheel wells, became a little bit easier compared to previous Land Cruiser models.
This gave an extensive boost in both traction and ground clearance compared to the stock 235/85/18 (letter size 31 and a half inches in overall diameter). For the rubber, he chose Hankook Dynapro XT and mounted them on a set of Black Rhino Congo 17×8.5 rims in black finish.

Suspension Lift
Of course, fitting such a big tire and making it work properly wouldn’t be possible without a lift kit. That’s why Matt set his mind on Robinson’s MRR extended travel lift kit, which provides roughly three more inches of height.
Even though the factory suspension of the Land Cruiser allows pretty good wheel travel, this kit allowed him to bump up this parameter and significantly improve the flex.

Bumpers & Skid Plates
Obviously, with such an aggressive wheel/suspension setup, a desire to test the limits of the new Land Cruiser is hard to resist. Although damage is an inevitable factor accompanying this venture, it’s vital to have proper armor to minimize it.
DV8 front and Rago Fabrication rear bumpers as well as DV8 and RCI skid plates were added to protect the vulnerable components of the body and undercarriage. On the back, you’ll also notice a Rigid Armor drop-down full-size spare tire carrier for recovery purposes.

Overland Gear
Among the overland-style upgrades are the low-profile DV8 Offroad roof rack with an Open Road 4WD rooftop tent (RTT) attached to it for multi-day adventures out in the wild. There are also Prinsu/CBI Offroad ladder roof rack, Rago Fabrication rear MOLLE panels and storage rack. Lensun Solar panel mounted on the hood provides power supply to on-board electronics and numerous lights.
Speaking of lights, this build has plenty of them. Starting from the Alpharex Nova Series LED headlights up to numerous pod and rock lights by Diode Dynamics.

Wrapping up
Without any doubt, the heritage of the Land Cruiser isn’t any less significant than that of the Bronco or Jeep. While later aren’t that popular outside the US, it is the Land Cruiser that holds the title of the number one 4×4 on the global market for many decades.
With 37-inch tires, extended travel suspension, and comprehensive armor, Matthew’s Land Cruiser 250 build can go toe-to-toe with top-tier off-road dedicated models like the Bronco Raptor and Jeep Rubicon.
The combination of proven off-road tricks and thoughtful overland equipment creates a rig that’s ready for serious adventure right out of the gate. Add in the 60-Series inspired design elements and striking Copper Gold wrap, and you’ve got a Land Cruiser that both looks and performs like a true off-road icon. It’s no wonder that CalTrend selected this build to feature in their booth at SEMA 2025.
