Lifted Toyota Fortuner Off Road Build on 33″ A/T Tires

It’s not a surprise the USA doesn’t get all the cars that are sold globally by international brands due to various marketing and production reasons. Which is why there is a pretty decent number of interesting trucks and SUVs that our readers from the States haven’t even heard of.
Our team is constantly on the look out for some cool and unusul off-road vehicles from all over the world, and for our today’s feature we’ve picked a lifted Toyota Fortuner SUV from Brazil outfitted with subtle, yet cool off-road upgrades to enhance its 4×4 capabilities and drive that signature Toyota adventure SUV look home.

ToggleAbout the Fortuner Model
A Toyota Fortuner is a body-on-frame SUV built on a Toyota Hilux pickup truck platform. Being a body-on-frame vehicle positioned between the RAV4 and a Prado, its size and form-factor are quite similar to the 4Runner.
It’s quite attractive design-wise (at least not ugly), comes with all necessary 4×4 features such as the low range and Torsen LSD differential, and I strongly believe that it would find lots of customers in this part of the world, but it would for sure lead to unnecessary internal competition with the 4Runner, and put additional stress on the local service supply chain.
Unlike the 4Runner, the Fortuner has a bit more narrow width, which makes it look a bit more tippy on the corners (like the Montero Sport), that’s why fitting a really tall lift kit isn’t an option, unless you widen the tracks to compensate it.

Fortuner Build
This particular example is a 2nd restyle 2015 model produced for the Brazilian market and sold under the name HILUX SW4 SRV (so it’s easy to confuse it with the Hilux pickup truck). Its 3.0L Turbo Diesel produces 171HP and very decent torque throughout the lower RPM range, which is definitely a good thing for off-roading.
After looking at this Hilux for the first time I noted how well the fender flares are contoured covering the slightly oversized All-Terrain tires. But to my surprise this is what the vehicle came with from the factory (I must admit, that it may not look good with skinny factory road tires).

The owner of this Toyota Fortuner decided to install a set of slightly oversized 285/70R17 BF Goodrich T/A KO All Terrain tires to beef up the looks and improve the off-road capabilities of this rig.
Pretty much the only non-stock add-on this SUV has is the side-mounted snorkel by the Brazilian off-road equipment manufacturer Predator 4×4. It ensures the engine keeps getting the so much needed aspiration even in the most extreme environments.

List of Modifications
Exterior
- Predator 4×4 Snorkel
- Blacked out exterior
- Stock fender flares
Wheels
- 285/70R17 BF Goodrich All Terrain Tires (33 Inches)

Conclusion
In conclusion, I really appreciate the blacked-out look and clean exterior of this Fortuner, which demonstrates remarkable restraint by focusing only on the essentials. The owner’s decision to keep it simple with just a set of beefy 33″ tires and a snorkel creates the perfect balance between aesthetic appeal and functional capability.
This straightforward build serves as an ideal starting point that can be easily enhanced for more technical off-roading or extensive overlanding adventures down the road. It’s a perfect example on how to spice up the looks of your Fortuner and make it look and feel more adventure-ready.
