This is our archive feature dedicated to a Dodge Ram 1500 prerunner build we presented a few years ago. The truck is so clean and tastefully done, that we couldn’t resist bringing it back to our new readers in 2024.
One of the first things that catch your eye is the wide stance, achieved with the help of beefy 37″ tires and a wide-body front clip. Back in 2016, Fiberwerx used this particular truck to create the mold for the non-TT short-bed bedsides for Ram prerunner applications. They managed to create particularly well-shaped body proportions that perfectly complement the appearance of these trucks.
But as you understand the biggest changes were made to the suspension. Kibbetech’s long travel front suspension package designed to wide the tracks and maximize the wheel travel have dramatically transformed the off-road capabilities of this Ram truck.
The heart of the system is the King Coilovers with remote reservoirs, providing superior damping and heat dissipation for consistent performance in demanding conditions. The stock 4-link rear suspension is retained but enhanced with drop-in King shocks, ensuring a balanced and capable setup. To maximize front wheel travel, the front differential has been removed, allowing for greater articulation and improved approach angles.
The truck sits on a set of Method 17-inch double standard wheels, known for their strength and durability in off-road environments. The wheels’ current condition suggests they could benefit from a fresh powder coating to restore their appearance and protect them from the elements. Wrapped around these wheels are Toyo R/T tires in an impressive 37×13.50R17 size, that look just right in the wide body wheel arches. These tires are specifically designed for rugged terrain, featuring a robust tread pattern that provides excellent traction and puncture resistance.
